Painting, or art generally, as such,
with all its technicalities, difficulties, and particular ends,
is nothing but a noble and expressive language,
invaluable as the vehicle of thought, but by itself nothing.
繪畫或一般意義上的藝術，
就其本身而言，盡管富于技巧，從事起來困難重重，且結果獨特，
只不過是一種高貴而富于表現力的語言，
作為思想表達的工具極具價值，但自身毫無價值。
