Takeaways can now be delivered to tourists on the Great Wall of China via drone
Fancy some steamed buns or sandwiches to beat the hunger pangs when hiking on the Great Wall? Gone are the days of a 50-minute trek—now, drones have got us covered, slashing the journey to a mere 5 minutes. Operating in the South Nine Towers area of Badaling, the service promises delivery by drones within five to 15 minutes.
The South Nine Towers area, which opened to the public at the end of last year, is a less commercialized, rugged section of the Great Wall. It preserves the Wall's historical charm while accommodating activities such as hiking and photography.
The drone delivery fee is just 4 yuan (56 cents), the same as regular deliveries. The service will take orders from 10 am to 4 pm, after which the drones will be tasked with carrying trash to recycling stations.
It's the capital's first drone service, adding to a fast-growing drone delivery business across China, which is the world's largest manufacturer and exporter of civilian consumer drones. The industry has brought convenience to people living in both cities and hard-to-reach rural areas.
In addition to boosting rural logistics, drones are also increasingly used to fetch quick takeout for people living in China’s metropolises.
