Fashion Spotlight: the trials and tribulations of trends
時(shí)尚聚光燈：流行趨勢(shì)的考驗(yàn)與磨難
Trends: a very controversial topic. What is so appealing about them, anyway? Although they’re intended to be lighthearted and fun, they don’t always end up that way. To some, they may seem like little fashion challenges that one can play around with, but that’s not always the case. This week, I want to address common critiques of trends.
流行趨勢(shì)，這是一個(gè)非常有爭(zhēng)議的話題。歸根究底，它到底有那里好？！盡管流行趨勢(shì)意在給人帶來更多輕松和樂趣，結(jié)果卻往往并非如此。對(duì)于一些人來說，新的流行趨勢(shì)不過是一個(gè)小小的時(shí)尚挑戰(zhàn)，最后完全可以駕馭，但對(duì)于另一些人來說不適用。本周，我想談?wù)剬?duì)于流行趨勢(shì)普遍存在的幾個(gè)看法。

Trends inevitably convey a very strong message. When coming from elite fashion magazines, they can imply, “You have to be this thin, or this tall, or this skin tone to be able to pull off this look.” But how is that real if we all are different shapes and sizes? This is definitely something worth thinking about.
流行趨勢(shì)總是不可避免地傳達(dá)出一種強(qiáng)有力的信息。論及精英時(shí)尚雜志，它們總是暗示“你必須要如此瘦小，或如此高大，亦或有著如此膚色，才能穿出如此感覺。”但如果我們的體型、穿衣尺碼各不相同，這種時(shí)尚對(duì)我們是否還適用？這絕對(duì)是一個(gè)值的思考的問題。
Some may say that this is not the case at all. Although trends are portrayed in a very specific manner in fashion magazines, part of the fun is taking that as an inspiration and, in turn, doing whatever you want from there. Let’s pretend that the biggest trend right now is the crop top. For example: although that crop top might not work on me the same way as the model, I can think about playing around with different waistlines and silhouettes created by my clothing. It’s true that it’s not exactly the same, but who said we all need to take those magazines so seriously anyway?
有的人可能會(huì)說事實(shí)并非如此。雖然流行趨勢(shì)以一種非常具體的方式在時(shí)尚雜志上被表現(xiàn)出來，它們僅供娛樂，而且其中一部分只是被當(dāng)做一種靈感來源，從讀者角度來看，大家也只消各取所需。假設(shè)現(xiàn)在最火的流行趨勢(shì)是露臍上裝，舉個(gè)例子來說：雖然那身露臍裝穿在我身上不會(huì)有和模特一樣的效果，我可以考慮通過自己搭配的服飾來達(dá)到同樣賣弄腰線和輪廓的效果。這確實(shí)和模特穿著不盡相同，但畢竟咱們也不用真拿雜志當(dāng)回事吧？
But there’s always the haute couture fashionista who will say that trends are particular. And that’s partly true: A crop top is a crop top, and there’s not really any other way to make something that’s not a crop top a crop top. And if I feel like I can’t pull off a crop top, I’m excluded from the latest and greatest fashion trend of the moment. It makes me not “fashionable” enough for haute couture that season.
但總是有一些時(shí)尚女裝迷認(rèn)為某種流行趨勢(shì)是特定的。這說來也有些道理：露臍上裝就是露臍上裝，沒有什么別的方法來把其他的衣服變成露臍上裝。而如果我感覺我可能不能很好地駕馭一件露臍上裝，那么我就被排除了在當(dāng)下最新流行趨勢(shì)之外。這讓我對(duì)于當(dāng)季高級(jí)時(shí)裝來說不夠“時(shí)尚”。
This makes fashion sound really exclusive. But trust me, it’s not. Fashion is all about self-expression, and the way we view it really makes all the difference. There are no “rules” in fashion，only opinions. You really can wear whatever you want, whenever you want. At least here in the United States, no one’s going to punish you for what’s on your body. So take a risk. The trends are there for your inspiration, but in reality the world is your oyster when it comes to deciding what style you want to adopt. If you don’t like the current trends, start your own trends! Even if they don’t become universally popular, you’ll look like the best version of yourself that you could imagine, and that’s something beautiful.
這樣說來時(shí)尚真的有排外性。但是相信我，這并非事實(shí)。時(shí)尚不過是一種自我表現(xiàn)，差異來源于我們看待它的方式。時(shí)尚沒有所謂的“規(guī)則”，有的只是不同的看法。 你當(dāng)然可以再任何時(shí)候穿上任何你喜愛的衣服。至少在美國(guó)，沒有人會(huì)因?yàn)槟闵砩洗┑囊路鴳土P你。所以冒冒險(xiǎn)吧。流行趨勢(shì)的存在不過是為了激發(fā)你的靈感，在你個(gè)人的著裝風(fēng)格這個(gè)問題上，世界盡在你掌握之中。如果你不喜歡當(dāng)下的流行趨勢(shì)，就引領(lǐng)你自己的潮流！即便你的搭配不是普遍追捧的款式，你會(huì)展現(xiàn)出你所能想象到的最好的一面，那才是真正的美麗。
So even though I’ll be forecasting trends in the upcoming weeks, don’t feel tied down to them. They’re simply suggestions for how to change your image if you’re feeling festive or daring in the fashion world. Take them as a challenge and a one-of-a-kind way to express yourself.
所以即便我將預(yù)測(cè)下幾周的流行趨勢(shì)，請(qǐng)不要被它們所束縛。有時(shí)我們收到氣氛感染，心情愉快，想要換個(gè)形象，有時(shí)我們只是單純的想要大膽嘗試，此時(shí)，流行趨勢(shì)不過是給你個(gè)參考。請(qǐng)把它們當(dāng)做小小的挑戰(zhàn)和表現(xiàn)自己的獨(dú)一無二的方式吧。
