1.Help Save Them
A bid to protect some of the world's most bizarre and unusual animals, many of which are being completely ignored by current international conservation efforts, has been launched. The Zoological Society Of London will focus on the most endangered animals.The two-humped Bactrian Camel is found in Asia where less than 1,000 are believed to survive in the Gobi desert.

2.The Pygmy Hippopotamus stands about one metre high and is native to West Africa. Numbers in the wild have fallen to below 2000 since 1993.

3.The Slender Loris has been hunted for centuries in Sri Lanka for its purported qualities as an aphrodisiac, asthma cure and as a kind of living voodoo doll. Development is also encroaching on its native habitat.

4.The tiny, insect-eating Long-Eared Jerboa lives only in one small area of south west Mongolia.

5.The Red Panda is found in the temperate forests of the Himalayas and some high mountain areas of China and Myanmar. It is now nearly extinct in the western part of its range due to human interference in its natural habitat.

6.The Orangutan hails from Indonesia. There are around 50,000 in the wild, but environmentalists warn they could be extinct by 2020 without a protection programme.

7.The Black Rhino population has been decimated by poachers in the last 40 years. Translocation schemes are in place to move groups of the animals to sanctuary areas in an attempt to protect them.
