The Excuse Never Heard
沒(méi)聽說(shuō)過(guò)的理由
A fellow bought a new Benz and was out on the interstate for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair and he decided to open her up.
一個(gè)人買了一輛新奔馳車，晚上開到州際公路去兜風(fēng)。車頂篷放了下來(lái)，清風(fēng)吹得他忘乎所以，他決定提起速度來(lái)跑一跑。
As the needle jumped up to 80 mph he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him.
當(dāng)車速表的指針指向時(shí)速80英里的時(shí)候，他突然發(fā)現(xiàn)紅藍(lán)色的警燈一閃一閃地跟在后面。
"There's no way they can catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself and opened her up further. His needle hit 90, 100, 110 and finally 150. Then the reality of the situation hit him.
“他們?cè)趺纯赡苴s上大奔呢，”他想著，又加快了速度。指針指到了90，100，110，直到150。最后他終于意識(shí)到了現(xiàn)實(shí)情況。
"What the hell am I doing?" he thought and pulled over.
“我這到底是在干什么？”他想著把車停到路邊。
The cop came up to him, took his license without a word, and examined it and the car.
警察走上來(lái)，一聲不吭地拿走他的駕照查看，又看了看他的車。
Finally he came to the window looking steadily at the driver and said, "I've had a tough shift and this is my last pull over. I don't feel like more paperwork so if you can give me an excuse for your speeding that I haven't heard before, you can go!"
終于警察走到車窗前，沉靜地看著他說(shuō)：“你是我下班前攔的最后一輛車了，我這個(gè)班很辛苦，我現(xiàn)在也不想開罰單了，所以如果你能給我一個(gè)我從沒(méi)聽過(guò)的超速理由，我就放了你。”
The driver blinked only once while his brain scrambled for a reply.
那個(gè)人只驚奇了一下就開始搜腸刮肚地想如何回答。
"Last week my wife ran off with a cop," he said, "and I was afraid you were trying to give her back!"
“上個(gè)星期，我的妻子跟一個(gè)警察跑了，”他說(shuō)，“我怕你追過(guò)來(lái)是要把她還回來(lái)！”
"Off you go," said the officer.
“你可以走了。”
