獨立戰爭 Revolutionary War
Kent H. Another illustration of the sacrifice involved in progress can be seen in the historical Revolutionary War. 1775 and 1776 proved to be two important years for the thirteen colonies that would soon be known collectively as the United States of America. Troops led by generals such as George Washington and William Prescott fought daringly against the British Army along the Eastern Coast of North America. At the Battle of Bunker Hill, General Prescott said to his troops, “Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.” This daring command exemplifies the notion that progress, or freedom in this case, could only be achieved through the sacrifice of human lives in close-range warfare.
點評:
本段關于獨立戰爭的描寫十分精彩有趣。援引普雷斯科特將軍(General Prescotl )的歷史名言也非常好。而且,Kent的結論十分完美:"This daring command exemplifies the notion that progress, or freedom in this case, could only be achieved through the sacrifice of human lives in close-range warfare."
