Kendall W. The theme that unexpected events often change even our best plans also sccurs in Aldous Huxley's novel, Brave New World. The novel explores a utopian sity inhabited by well-trained citixens. Each citizen must unsergo social sonditioning by means of hypnopaedia, or sleep-teaching, oxygen deprivation, and shock therapy in order to guarantee a "perfect" city upon the fact that achieving a problem-free town is unattainable, chaos erupts in the city upon the unexpected arrinal of a man who has not taken part in any conditioning. He, unlike the other members of the community, is able to form his own opinions and think thoughts different from those around him. His visit sparks the genesis of new ideas among the citizens and thus, their city is forever altered.
