1. 地道表達(dá)
【地道短語】wimp out (of)
【解詞釋義】wimp原本是名詞,意思為“懦弱的人”,是一種非常正規(guī)的口語表達(dá)方式。在改習(xí)語中,wimp轉(zhuǎn)化為動(dòng)詞,其意轉(zhuǎn)為“退縮”。Wimp out of是指“遇到困難而退縮不前”,意即“貪圖享受,知難而退”。其英文解釋為:to not do something that you intended to do because you are too frightened or not confident enough to do it
【支持范例1】They don’t wimps out of arduous work.
他們對(duì)艱辛的工作不會(huì)知難而退的。
【支持范例2】Brezhnev did not wimp out and rambled on about its historical importance for the United States and the Soviet Union.
