On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minute hand did not move. We waited and waited, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted. 'It's two minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!' I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment, everybody beganto laugh and sing.

語法點：時間表達法
A.整點：
用鐘點（基數詞） + o'clock。注意o'clock須用單數可以省略。
如：one o'clock 1點鐘 12 (o'clock) 12點鐘
B.非整點：
①順讀：直接讀數字
如：ten forty 10:40； seven ten 7:10；
②逆讀
1）如果分鐘數少于30分鐘，可用“分鐘 + past + 鐘點”表示 past是介詞意思是“過”。
如 twenty past ten 10: 20
2）如果分鐘數多于30分鐘， “（60分鐘-原分鐘數）+ to +（原小時數+ 1）” to是介詞，意思是“差”。
如 11:35 可表示為（60-35） twenty-five to twelve
如：7:48 (60-48) twelve to eight
如：8:39 twenty-one to nine
如：6:52 eight to seven
注：當分鐘數是15分鐘時可用名詞quarter一刻鐘表示。
如：7:15可表示為 a quarter past seven
12:15可表示為 a quarter past twelve

2)stop doing sth 停止做某事；stop to do something 停下來去做某事

2)watch out! 小心；watch your mouth 說話注意點！
3)refuse to do sth 拒絕做某事
