Mary: Hi Sam, I have filled out these forms in order to have a leave of absence.

Sam: I see that you wrote that a family member passed away. I am deeply sorry to hear that. Our company offers two weeks off work for bereavement time.

Mary: Thank you for your sympathy. My grandma had raised me since I was a child, and was like a mother to me. I think that I will need to use the full two weeks, time to take care of everything for the funeral and to take some time to grieve.
