【講解】
該習(xí)語(yǔ)本義為“突出，顯眼”，在口語(yǔ)中引申為“在智力上表現(xiàn)超常”。例如：John had shown up all the other students.（約翰比其他的學(xué)生要聰明得多。）它在口語(yǔ)中的意思還可以是“到達(dá)，出席，露面”。
【對(duì)話】
A:We expected eighty people at the lecture, but twice that showed up.
A:我們預(yù)期有80個(gè)人來(lái)參加講座，可是卻到了兩倍的人。
B:Fancy that.
B:真想不到。
A:It seems that many people are interested in this issue.
