SHOPPER l: Big.
SHOPPER 2:It's good.
SHOPPER 3: Marvellous. It's cheap. It's very cheap.

GEOFF: Alan*,tell me more about the new supermarket. .
MANAGER:Well, It's bigger than the old one, of course. It's 3000 square metres.
GEOFF: What about the old one?
MANGER: Oh,it was about 1500 square metres. This one's twice as big.
GEOFF: Is it cheaper than the old one?
MANAGER: Oh, yes, it's cheaper and better. And it's more modern... and more convenient than the old one.
*Geoff管經理叫Alan,這是經理的名字。
不說姓,只說名字,這樣叫比較隨便。

Tell me more about it 再談談別的情況
What's it/he/she like? 它/他/她是什么樣的?

第三部分:課程
1.DESCRIBING THIN 描述事物
我們請別人描述一個事物,提問時常常用like這個詞。得到的回答往往是It's+形容詞,或單用形容詞:
What's the new supermarket/it like?
-It's big.
-Big.
也可以用下面這個句型請別入描述事物:
Tell me about the new supermarket. ,
如果想進一步了解情況,就說:
Tell me more about it.
2.DESCRIBING PEOPLE 描述人物
用like提問,請對方提供他人的情況,有兩種問法:
a) What's John like?
(通常是指他的性格,但有時也可以指他的外表。)
He's nice.(指性格)
He's slim.(指外表)
b) What does John Look like?(只指他的外表)
He's dark.
其他動詞也可以套此句型:
What does it SOUND like?
What does it FEEL like?
What does it TASTE like?
3.COMPARING 比較
It's bigger than the old one.*
It's cheaper than the old one.
It's more modern than the old one.
It's more convenient than the old one.
It's better ** than the old one.
It's twice as big as the old one.
It's three times as big as...
以上所舉各例只是比較等級的概概。要知詳細內容,請參閱語法書。
*The old one 這里的one用來代替 supermarket。英語里經常用one代替上文提到過的名詞。
The new supermarket is big.
The old one was small.
**Better是good的比較級形式,其最高綴形式是best。
PRONUNCIATION CORNER
注意: ’s用作簡略式時有兩種情況:
She's nice. (’s=is)
She's got fair hair.(’s=has)
語音練習:
What's he like?
What's she like?
這兩個問句說得很快時聽起來很相似,請注意區別What's he like?中的[s]和What's she like?中的[ʃ]。
廣播中尚有下列內容:
1.超級市場:大型商場,出售食品和其他物品。購物時顧客從貨架上挑選好要買的東西,然后在出口處交款。 .
2.Barbara和John:這兩人互相談了對方的特點,你聽了以后對他們會有進一步的了解。
3.High和tall的區別:tall用于人;high用于物。
4.Good在不同的上下文有不同的含意:The supermarket's good. (我喜歡這家超級市場,這個地方不錯。)
The child's good.(這孩子表現好。)
Good! I've finished!(我為此感到高興。)
Have a good day.(希望對方痛痛快快地玩一天。)
第四部分:練習
