首先介紹一個(gè)動(dòng)詞詞組： gaze at, 意思是“盯著看”，“凝視”，“注視”：

He was gazing at a couple of hot girls eating chicken wings. 他一直在盯著看幾個(gè)正在吃雞翅的漂亮性感女孩。

She gazed at me for a long time before she recognized who I was. 她注視著我好久, 才認(rèn)出我是誰。

As I gaze at the vast blue sky, I feel helpless. 望著那遼闊的天空，甚覺心有余而力不足矣。

下面來到今天的正課，如何表達(dá)競爭，可以用“compete”這個(gè)動(dòng)詞，意思是“競賽; 競爭”，“比得上, 媲美”，如：

Who could compete in the Olympics? 什么樣人可以參加奧運(yùn)會(huì)？

These products are of high quality and able to compete internationally. 這些產(chǎn)品品質(zhì)很好, 在國際市場上有競爭能力。

那么，想表達(dá)與某人，或某個(gè)競爭對手競爭，或比得上競爭對手時(shí)，可以在“compete”后面加一個(gè)介詞“with/against”，然后在“with/against”后面加上競爭對手就可以了：

We can't compete against our overseas competitors. 我們工廠競爭不過海外的對手。

The firm is too small to compete against large ones. 這家公司太小，不能與大公司抗衡。

You cannot compete with those postgraduates. 你無法和那些研究生競爭。

My handwriting cannot compete with his. 我的書法不及他。

We can compete with the best teams. 我們能與最好的團(tuán)隊(duì)競爭。

順便提一句, “compete”的名詞形式是”competition”, 當(dāng)我們形容競爭很激烈時(shí),可以這樣來說: The competition is rather intense. 這場競爭相當(dāng)激烈.
