以前有看過一個小故事說：有個外國人很喜歡收藏名畫，一次他的中國朋友在他那里看到他的收藏品，他說：My several old paintings are white elephants. 可是中國人怎么也不能從畫上看出白象來。實際上在英語里這個短語的意思是“貴重而無用，但也是不易處理的物品”。
