Sally reckoned that she could exchange theTV she had just bought

for an item of reciprocal value.
換一件價值相等的物品
Its reception was bad and she still had thereceipt,
它的接收效果很差，她還保留著發(fā)票，
so she just figured that she could do anexchange.
所以她琢磨著應(yīng)該能換
Boy was she wrong.
但她大錯特錯了。
When she went to the reception desk of thestore
她來到商店服務(wù)臺，
they first readily reassured her that shecould do an exchange.
一開始他們欣然保證一定能換。
They told her to step to the rear of theroom
他們讓她走到屋子后面去填一些表格，
and fill out forms for reclaiming creditequal to the value of the TV.
要求收回與電視機(jī)價值相等的金額。
After wading through the dark realm of thebureaucrat,
好不容易走出官僚們的黑暗王國，
Sally kept her mood from receding intofrustration and stayed reasonable.
莎麗盡量不讓自己的心情變得沮喪，盡量保持通情達(dá)理。
She thought she would soon reap a rewardfor filling out countless forms in triplicate!
她想既然已經(jīng)填了無數(shù)一式三份的表格，應(yīng)該很快就能獲得回報。
Back at the desk the receptionistapologized
回到服務(wù)臺，接待員向她道歉說，
and said the company had recalled that
公司記得
she paid the TV she had purchased the dayby cheque!
那天她買電視是用支票付的款!
They couldn't help her!
他們幫不了她!
She recommended that Sally speak directlywith the company.
她建議莎麗直接跟公司談。
Acting on that recommendation, Sally calledthe company.
莎麗接受了這個建議，給公司打了電話。
They were, however, less than receptive
但他們根本不愿意接受她的要求，
and went through a recital of reasons whythey couldn't refund her the money!
還列舉了一大堆不能退錢的理由!
They even blamed the recession!
他們甚至還把責(zé)任推給了經(jīng)濟(jì)衰退!
Well Sally became reckless and lost controlof her reasoning abilities.
莎麗也變得粗魯起來，她無法繼續(xù)跟他們講道理，
She started to yell!
也開始了大聲嚷嚷!
As it turned out, this was the only recipefor success at this company.
原來嚷嚷才是對付這家公司的惟一辦法。
They did not want to become the recipientof yet another lawsuit
他們不愿又接到另外一場官司，
and quickly became polite.
很快變得禮貌起來。
They wrote a check to Sally and she wenthome worn out,
他們給莎麗開了一張支票，她回到家時盡管已經(jīng)精疲力竭了，
but glad that the whole ordeal was finallyover!
因為一場磨難終于過去了!
