Replying to such a well-argued speech is not easy, but I will try.
要回應(yīng)論證如此嚴(yán)密的辯辭并不容易，但是我會盡力。
As you know, I'm speaking against this motion. I wish to make three main points.
正如你們所了解的，我要反駁辯題。這個我想提出三個主要論點(diǎn)。
First, we cannot accept this traditional role for women in a modern society.
首先，我們不能接受婦女在現(xiàn)代社會中的這種傳統(tǒng)角色。
Second, I wish to refute the argument that women are weaker than men.
第二，我想反駁女人比男人弱的觀點(diǎn)。
Third, I shall discuss whether or not women should stay at home to take care of children.
第三，我要討論婦女是否應(yīng)該呆在家里照看小孩。
In proposing the motion, Jane suggested that we should be proud of our history and respect the tradition, role of women.
在提出這個辯題時，簡提議我們應(yīng)該為我們的歷史感到自豪，并且尊重女性的傳統(tǒng)角色。
Well, I want to remind her of some other facts about the past.
嗯，我想提醒她一些有關(guān)過去的史實(shí)。
Girls born into many poor families were not wanted.
很多出生在貧窮人家的女孩被拋棄。
They were sometimes killed or sold as slaves.
她們有時被殺掉或是當(dāng)奴隸販賣。
After they got married, many women were like servants in their husband's family.
她們結(jié)婚后，很多婦女在婆家像仆人一樣工作。
These wives had such a low status that they were confined to their houses, and had to do as they were told.
這些婦女的地位十分低下，她們被禁閉在家中，惟命是從。
New wives sometimes committed suicide.
新婚妻子有時自殺。
Are these traditions which we should support today? I don't think so.
這些傳統(tǒng)我們現(xiàn)在還要擁護(hù)嗎？我不這樣認(rèn)為。
We can be proud of our history without clinging to these old traditions.
我們可以為我們的歷史而自豪，但不要固守這些舊傳統(tǒng)。
