1. road 主要指能通車的“大道”、“公路”；path 主要指車輛不能通行的“小路”。但在比喻用法中，兩者常可互換。如：
It’s not really a road, only a path. 那算不上是大路只不過是小徑而已。
Hard work is the road [path] to success. 勤奮是成功之路。

2. way 表示“路”，其含義通常比較抽象，主要指路的方向或距離。如：
Which is the way to the station? 去車站怎么走?
We lost our way in the forest. 我們在森林中迷了路。
It’s a long way from here. 那地方離這里很遠。
注：way 一般不指某一特定的“路”，下面各句不宜用 way：
There’s a car outside parked in the road. 外面的路上停著一輛小汽車。
We followed a muddy path through the forest. 我們沿著一條泥濘的小路穿過森林。

3. 表示擋路或礙事等，通常用 way, 但有時也用 road, 但一般不用 path。如：
You are in my way [road]. 你擋我的路了。
Get out of my road [way]；I want to pass. 不要擋我的道, 我要過去。

4. 在專有名詞中，通常用 road 而不用 way 或 path。如：
Jiefang Road 解放路 35 York Rd. London 倫敦約克路 35 號
注：有時 way 也用于專有名詞中，但那主要用于個別古路名或指小街或小巷。如：
the Appian Way 亞壁大道(古羅馬皇帝 Appius 所建的軍用大道，是當時最好的一條大道)
He lives in Stepney Way. 他住在斯特普尼小巷。
