1. thankful 表示感謝時，其對象較為抽象，含有感謝上帝、 運氣、命運等意味，有類似于漢語的謝天謝地之意。主要用于表示人們因避開了危險或結束了不愉快的經歷等的寬慰心情。如：

2. grateful 表示感謝時，其對象比較具體，它主要用于人們在得到好處、恩惠、善待等情況下表達的感激之情。如：

I am grateful to hear you have put in a good word for my son. 聽說你替我兒子美言，我很感激。
