Should I Be Allowed to Make My Own Decisions?
應該讓我自己做決定嗎？
Many teenagers have hobbies. But sometimes these can get in the way of their schoolwork, and parents might worry about their success at school.
許多青少年都有興趣愛好。但是有時這些興趣愛好會妨礙他們的學業(yè)，而且父母們也會擔心他們在學校的成績。
Teenagers often think they should be allowed to practice their hobbies as much as they want. Do you agree?
青少年常認為應該讓他們盡可能實踐自己的愛好。你同意嗎？
Liu Yu, a fifteen-year-old boy from Shandong, is a running star.
來自山東的15歲男孩，劉宇是一名跑步明星。
He is on his school team and has always wanted to be a professional runner when he grows up.
他是校隊成員，長大后希望成為一名專業(yè)跑步運動員。
However, his parents won't allow him to train so much.
但是他的父母卻不讓他花太多時間訓練。
"Of course we want to see him achieve his dreams," says Mr.Liu.
“我們當然希望看到他實現(xiàn)夢想，”劉先生說。
"And we know how much he loves running. My wife and I have supported every one of his races. We have nothing against running!
“而且我們知道他有多熱愛跑步。我的妻子和我去支持了他的每一場比賽。我們并不反對跑步！
But we think our son needs to think about other possible jobs.
但是我們認為我們的兒子需要考慮一下其他可能的職業(yè)。
He's getting older now, so he needs to think about what will happen if he doesn't end up a professional runner."
他慢慢長大了，需要考慮如果他最終沒能成為一名專業(yè)跑步運動員的話，會發(fā)生什么。”
Liu Yu doesn't really agree. "Well, I think I should be allowed to decide for myself," he says.
劉宇并不同意。“我認為應該讓我自己做決定，”他說道。
"My parents have always taught me how important it is to work hard at school and enter university.
“我的父母總是告訴我在學校努力學習考上大學有多重要。
I understand this, but I'm serious about running. It's the only thing I've ever wanted to do."
我理解這一點，但是我對跑步極感興趣。這是我唯一想做的事情。”
His parents believe that Liu Yu should study hard in the evenings so they don't allow him to practice running at night.
他的父母認為劉宇晚上應該努力學習，所以他們就不讓他在晚上練習跑步。
"Maybe he thinks it's too strict or unfair," says Mrs. Liu. "But we think we're doing the right thing.
“或許他覺得這樣過于嚴格或者不公平，”劉媽媽說。“但我們覺得我們是在做正確的事。
He needs to spend more time on his homework because it is difficult to become a professional sports star."
他需要多花時間做作業(yè)，因為要成為一名專業(yè)運動員明星是很難的。”
But Liu Yu still disagrees. "I know my parents care about me. They always talk about what will happen if I don't succeed. But I will! I'm a quick runner!
但是劉宇還是不同意這種觀點。“我知道我的父母關心我。他們總是說如果我沒有成功會怎樣。但是我會成功的！我是一名快跑運動員！
I think I should be allowed to make this choice myself. Only then will I have a chance to achieve my dream.
我認為我應該自己做決定。只要這樣我才有機會實現(xiàn)我的夢想。
