Hey, did you know that potato chips were invented by mistake?
嗨，你知道薯片是由于一次差錯而被發(fā)明出來的嗎？
Really? What do you mean?
真的么？什么意思呢？
Well, here on the bag it says that they were invented by a cook called George Crum.
袋子上說，薯片是由一位名叫喬治·克拉姆的廚師發(fā)明的。
When was that?
是什么時候？
Oh, it was back in 1853.
哦，是在1853年。
So, why was it an accident?
那么為什么說是個意外呢？
Well, one day, a customer came into the restaurant where George worked. He ordered a plate of fried potatoes. When the potatoes came, he said they were cut too thick and sent them back to the kitchen.
一天，一位顧客走進喬治·克拉姆工作的餐廳。他點了一盤炸土豆。上菜后，這位顧客說這個土豆切得太厚了并把土豆拿回了廚房。
So what happened?
然后發(fā)生什么了？
Well, George was angry, so he cut the potatoes really, really thin, and he cooked them for a long time until they were crispy. And he put lots of salt on them so they were really salty. He thought the customer would hate them.
喬治很生氣，所以他把土豆切得非常非常薄，并烹飪了很長時間，直到土豆變得很脆。他還在上邊撒了很多鹽，讓土豆很咸。他認(rèn)為客戶會非常討厭這道菜的。
And?
然后呢？
And the customer loved them and asked for more. He told the other customers about them, and soon everyone was ordering thinly cut, crispy, salty potato chips.
然后客戶非常喜歡還點了更多。他還告訴了其他顧客，很快每個人都來點這種薄薄脆脆的咸土豆片。
And we're still eating them today. What a cool story!
