Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been convicted of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. The jury deliberated for ten hours. Chauvin could spend decades in prison.
President Biden said the Chauvin conviction can be a giant step forward in the fight against systemic racism. Biden spoke along with Vice President Kamala Harris and called for Congress to enact policing reform.
There were protests in Columbus, Ohio, after police say an officer shot and killed a teenage girl on Tuesday. Police released officer body cam video hours after the shooting and said the girl was trying to stab two people with a knife.
The United Nations is seeking close to $30 million to help the Carribean island of St. Vincent recover from ongoing volcanic eruptions. Recent eruptions have destroyed homes and crops, contaminated water and displaced many residents.
