Scott Morrison is vowing to cap Australia's refugee intake if he's returned to power after next month's election. The Prime Minister will announce the policy today as part of a proposal to reform the immigration system. Meanwhile, Bill Shorten will outline his 4-billion-dollar plan to subsidise childcare if the Labor Party wins.
Authorities in the US state of California say a woman has died and three others are injured after a shooting at a synagogue near San Diego. A 19-year-old man has been arrested following the shooting that came on the last day of the Jewish holiday of Passover. It's also six months since a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 people.
Sri Lankan authorities estimate there are at least 70 militants, with access to explosives, still at large following the Easter Sunday terrorist bombings. Catholic leaders have cancelled Sunday masses indefinitely and most mosques suspended Friday prayers amid fears of more attacks.
And in AFL, the GWS Giants have secured a victory over the Sydney Swans, beating them 120 to 79 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 41-point win lifted the spirits of the Giants after their shock loss to Fremantle last week.
