The withdrawal of the bail application means the 77-year-old is likely to be remained in custody ahead of his sentencing next month.
Church officials have confirmed Cardinal Pell is no longer the economy minister for the Vatican, but notes he hasn't been sacked. Pell took indefinite leave from the post when he returned to Australia to fight the charges against him. His five-year term expired on Sunday, and it was unclear if he was still technically in the position. The Vatican's confirmed that Pell's no longer the secretariat for the economy.
US president Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have both arrived in Hanoi in Vietnam for their second meeting. The pair will have a private dinner tonight and further talks tomorrow. They're expected to discuss what progress Pyongyang has made on denuclearization — a promise made during their first summit in Singapore last year.
