Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has made an extraordinary claim that the reason he was ousted was because he would have won the next election. In a BBC interview, Mr Turnbull says despite trailing Labor in almost 40 newspolls in a row, his government was still in a competitive winnable position and this he says is what his party really feared.
Police in Brisbane have arrested a man over a dramatic carjacking, in which a woman and her two children were threatened with a knife and axe. The car was spotted speeding through Logan and nearby suburbs overnight, after a member of the public alerted police. A tyre deflation device was used, and a 24 year old man is now assisting police with their inquiries into a string of recent incidents.
Justin Trudeau has expressed regret over his handling of a political scandal that's threatening his future as Canadian prime minister. Speaking for the first time, he's denied putting inappropriate pressure on his Justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, who has quit over a corruption case against one of the country's biggest firms. She claims that she faced pressure not to pursue a criminal prosecution. Mr Trudeau concedes mistakes were made.
