It was in 2008 when Taylor Swift won her very first American Music Award (AMA), for Favorite Country Female Artist. During the ceremony, the then 18-year-old US singer-songwriter wore a long white dress, and performed White Horse, a song about how she came from a small town where a boy broke her heart.

Wearing a black bodysuit and boots, the soon-to-be-28-year-old Swift sang about how she'd finally seen through the way the world works and was not easily hurt anymore. She took home three awards, including Artist of the Year. That gave Swift a total of 23 AMA trophies, more than any other female artist in music history.
