Didi Chuxing, China's largest ride-hailing company, announced on May 16 a set of measures to improve passenger safety. For starters, it will suspend its Hitch ride service from 10 pm to 6 am. Passengers and drivers will receive safety warnings for orders near 10 pm.

Personal information and profile pictures of drivers and passengers will only be available to drivers and passengers themselves. Before the changes, drivers could see a passenger's information before accepting an order, and vice versa.
The move came after a 21-year-old air hostess was allegedly killed by her Didi Hitch driver in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on May 6.
China's Ministry of Transport has urged ride-sharing platforms to carry out stricter driver qualification reviews and improve business regulations to make trips safer.
