Hi everyone, and welcome back to Happy Hour. 歡迎回來酒館. Hi, 安瀾.
Hi, lulu, hi everyone.
Let me propose a topic today. Recently there have been a lot of celebrity reality shows, and on these shows, Chinese shows, there were a few people especially women, they were like defying age in their advanced years, for example, in their 70s, they were still really active, really, really positive.
So I thought we can talk about the whole idea of high energy people.
So there's lots and lots of expressions, lots of phrases that we can look at.
And especially this is the polar opposite to people who are like capybara.
Or the polar opposite to me.
Would you say that you're very low energy? You look fine to me. You're very average in this energy level wise.
I wouldn't say I'm particularly high energy. It depends really how I'm feeling. I can be very high energy, but I would say that generally I'm quite calm. I am slightly low energy.
More like a capybara.
Probably yes.
就是那種有淡淡死感的人, 中文里叫有“淡淡死感”, it’s like you don't even know if they are live or dead.
I'm not as bad as that.
Would you say I am definitely a high energy person because I've been told that many times.
Well, you are my boss and I have noticed you can get rather high energy.
In this episode, we're gonna talk about the characteristics of high energy people, a lot of useful expressions that you can use to describe people like this or maybe you are like that. And also the benefits and challenges that go with it really.
Let's first of all, take a look at the characteristics. First of all, what is a high energy person?
They're full of energy, right?
But there's lots of different ways you can describe this. So for example, enthusiastic.
Enthusiastic這個詞還蠻不好發的. Enthusiastic, enthusiasm就是非常有激情有熱情. They show excitement and passion especially for what they do, what they are into.
Yes, and that leads on to being motivated.
This is what bosses like.
I know.
A motivated person means you have a lot of drive, you have a lot of motivation. You don't need to be told what to do or ordered what to do. They will just directly do it. They're focused on the goal.
I would say in this, you are definitely a high energy person, fast pace.
I speak fast.
You speak fast, you think quickly, and when you want to you can move quickly as well.
Thank you, but we also describe not only people, we describe a lifestyle for example we say places at the mega cities in the world, be it New York, London, Beijing, Shanghai, these are all very fast paced city.
So everyone's going very quickly, everyone's working, there's a lot of excitement.
I always remember mentioning to people the first time I saw people running on the underground during rush hour in London, I was quite shocked, because I've never seen it before. And then I think it was you who said to me that's because you don't take subway in Beijing.
Pretty much.
And it's also because subway in Beijing during rush hour you can't run because it's so crowded.
To be honest I noticed that when I'm in London I do walk a lot faster than I would anywhere else.
Yeah I mean because in Beijing you probably don't need to negotiate the rush hour traffic.
Not really no.
Another thing about high energy people, the fact that they can be so high energy is because there are quite optimistic and positive.
You have to be kind of optimistic, you have to be positive about the future. You can see this in how expressive that they are as well.
Whether they are going to achieve it or not, it's a whole lot of question, but they at least believe they are going to achieve their goal. And I would say they also tend to be highly expressive, you know people...there was Italians in this. They're like talking with their hands.
Our audience probably can't see this. Our audience definitely can't see this, but as Lulu said that, she was waving her hands in the air.
I’m being very Italian like.
Exactly.
Another thing is sociable.
Socializing takes a lot of energy actually.
I would say I'm pretty good at being social, but it's not sort of my default setting.
For example, I'm not like an introvert. But for example, if I do go out, if I do socialize, I do get a little bit tired.
To be honest, based on my observation of you. You enjoy more probably like 1 on 1, like 1 to 1 socializing, like deep talks rather than being in a room full of people and trying to have brief conversation with everyone.
I can do it, but it's not something I feel 100% comfortable with.
You definitely are not a social butterfly.
So I think this is... we talk about E人I人, a lot of high energy people they're also very E, they're extreme extroverts, so they are very sociable.
And also they are persistent. Once they set their eyes on the goal, they don't give up. They're like...well, we're like bloodhound.
Exactly.
So you don't give up easily. 其實中文里有一個詞叫很軸. Yeah, it's almost persistent to a fault.
Like very stubborn, exactly, very stubborn.
Okay. So those are some of the characteristics of a high energy person. Maybe you can use it as a checklist to see if you are actually a high energy person.
