Yeah, it's going. So, I thought, can I propose a topic today?

Sure, what you got in mind?

Yeah. I'm actually thinking about a saucy subject to talk about.

Uh-oh.

I know it's a bit weird since we're talking geek topics. But I mean, this is somewhat related. You know that I've been doing a lot of live streaming, and obviously we live stream together on the streets of Kyoto like a couple of months ago, and you also talking about starting your own live streaming, and you know the other day 安瀾 during one of our live streams, he joked about starting his own OnlyFans page.

Hahaha, I don't see him doing that, but that would be interesting.

It would be a laugh, it would be a laugh, right?

Yeah.

So I thought we can talk about OnlyFans.

Okay.

First things first, so if... let's say English speakers, when they hear the word OnlyFans, most people will know what that is, right?

Yeah, most people understand it. It's some sort of adult videos, right?

Yeah, but it's not just that. I mean, this is actually a place that allows you to, it's almost like adults video version of like YouTube.

Right. I think when it started, the original idea was to give people a place where they can make adult content. I don't think it was... it's been branched out a little bit, a lot of people are going in and making other kinds of content. But like there was kind of an alternative to platforms like YouTube.

Actually, I think, I don't know if this is true, but maybe it started because those YouTube like YouTubers, when they were trying to upload certain contents, and they feel like they are somewhat restricted, like there are some YouTubers there they follow, they have their YouTube channel where they talk about really PG stuff. But they also have an OnlyFans page where they don't necessarily strip naked, but they talk about more like adult content.

Yeah. Like if you're on YouTube and you do adult themed stuff, you can lose all your money and you won't be able to get money from your videos. Whereas if you take those same videos, you put them on OnlyFans or you do like live streaming on OnlyFans, you can make money from that. I think like one of the biggest draws for people is that OnlyFans pays its creators 80% of the money that comes in from their account.

Yeah. I mean, that is really generous. To our listeners, I don't know if you know the rules of different platforms, but a lot of the platforms in China will take half of the cuts like 50%, of some would even take more than 50%.

So for OnlyFans, we're not here encouraging you to get on OnlyFans. I have to put the disclaimer out there, but the fact that as a platform, as a subscription based video platform, they pay their creators 80% and they only take a 20% cut, for a platform that is pretty generous.

Yeah, I think their model is a very different model, like on, for example, on YouTube, they have a lot of advertising and that's how people can make money. But you can also have donations on YouTube. You can also do subscriptions now, I think they started adding the subscription model as a way to kind of compete with OnlyFans, so that everyone on YouTube can actually get those. But I think they take a very similar cut when it comes to the advertising money, YouTube takes a like a big chunk of that.

Big chunk of that.

Yeah.

Yeah, I think for any content creators or like social media influencers, one of the things unless you're super rich and really just doing this for fun, most people will have to face, sooner or later, the issue of monetizing就是變現.

Mhm.

Yeah, and how to monetize on platforms, you can obviously just directly ask people to subscribe訂閱, paid subscription; you can ask people to tip you 打賞 as during the live stream; you can do your merch, your merchandise 周邊; and you can do customize contents就定制的這種content.

And then there are other obviously like you said they can also take advertisers’ money, so these are the ways to do it. And I heard that OnlyFans basically lets you start your own page and you can start collecting money as soon as people start signing up. So the whole route it seems very straightforward, right?

Right. With Facebook you have to get on there, then they're sometimes they're very strict about things. Sometimes if you're doing really well, they might let you get monetize a little bit earlier. But oftentimes you have to have like 1,000 subscribers to your channel and you have to have some thousand number of hours of viewing on your page before they give you monetization, but on OnlyFans, you set up your account, you say here's my subscriptions or here's my different subscription levels.

And as soon as someone subscribes, you can start making money.

So even if you just get your friends, your family members to subscribe, that's your first income, right? Although I don't think mom and dad or your uncles would really want to see you on OnlyFans.

No, I think that's a big thing with some families. If like they know you're on OnlyFans, they'll probably be unhappy with you,

Yeah, they would disown you. That's the thing, OnlyFans does not require you to put adult content.

No.

But when people hear OnlyFans, it's like when people hear Pornhub, they think it's pornographic. It's something related to adult content.

Right. You know, when it comes to OnlyFans you can put anything you want on there. But I think most people use it for adult content just because all the other adult or all the other platforms restrict adult content.

And so like you can show some things on YouTube, there's a lot of when it comes to educational videos, you can show certain body parts, but things like that, they won't let you make any money. So if you have a video that's showing any body parts, they demonetize it. You don't get any money. It might be an educational video. They might allow it to stay up under that, but they don't let you make any money off it. So when it comes to OnlyFans, people can actually put content on there.

Now when it comes to OnlyFans, there's a lot of regulations going on. They had a big ban on a lot of adult content,

Very explicit ones. Right? With very explicit content.

Yeah, they stopped that really very quickly because everyone who was on there was just like what are you doing? This is like your platform. Mhm. Then they go, I guess you probably right.

Mhm.Yeah, but obviously they will ban anything... I've actually checked just for background research, I've checked like their rules on OnlyFans and they obviously banned all of the illegal stuff, the coerce, the non-consensual child exploitation, human trafficking, and all of the usual which should be banned, but I don't really see a lot of restrictions on consensual adults' content. Just for those of you who don't really have a clue as in how much money OnlyFans content creators are making, so the top, I think, Brad, you probably heard of this. This is like basically this is news, newsworthy now. In 2024, the top trending of the richest content crater on OnlyFans is a 20-year-old American girl. She earned $43 million in 2024.

Yeah. That's just, that's insane. You know, it's... people can make a lot of money off this. Most people aren't making that much. I think I saw the number was the average content creator on OnlyFans makes about $1,300 a year.

Yeah.

So when you have one person making 43 million, the average person is making 1,300. There's a lot of people who aren't really making anything.

Well, yeah, but this is the rule of not just on the OnlyFans. This is the rule of all live streaming, adult or non adult or like just general audience. Winner takes all, it truly is, winner takes all in the live streaming game, right? It's like the top 20 creators that I've searched, based on my research, top 20 creators on OnlyFans earned a staggering combined total of 260 million dollars.

Wow. That's a lot.

Yeah. In the advanced episode we can get probably a little bit into the psyche, like why people pay to subscribe to these people, because it's not the same as just pure pornographic sites. I think it's a combination of the interaction and also the fantasy part of it.

Yeah, they may not be like the dirtiest content, but they actually do make perhaps the most money.

Yeah. It comes down to a lot of just interaction with people like if we just look at YouTube, on YouTube, people wanted to be able to make money, and...

They use like patreon, right? (Patreon 是一個在線平臺，專門用于創作者和粉絲之間的互動和支持。它允許創作者通過提供獨家內容、福利或其他服務，從粉絲那里獲得持續的經濟支持。)

Yeah. They use things like Patreon, which was a very similar thing to OnlyFans before, right?

So when someone wanted to make money, but they couldn't have subscription on YouTube, someone created Patreon, and that way someone could say, hey, if you want me to make certain content, if you wanna see other kinds of content or special videos, you can sign up for my Pateron, you can buy T shirts and merch. You can do all these things through that. And you can support me.

And that way, you know, people there are chat... like in some of the YouTube platform video makers, right? They have their own special chat box on the screen. And so YouTube has its chat, but then you have your own special chat and so like the Youtuber will actually interact with the people who are chatting with them through their Patreon chat.

So it's a way for them to make money aside from the YouTube monetization.

Yeah.

But OnlyFans did something very similar and we can talk a little bit more about that in the advanced episode.

So I think we're gonna wrap up here in the basic episode, and again disclaimer, Brad and I were not trying to encourage you to go on OnlyFans and start your own page and start monetizing. We're simply telling you what it is and why people are talking about it.
