Chinese authorities are urging the country’s telecom operators to offer cheaper data packages to students in low-income areas who are studying remotely during the COVID-19 epidemic and may not have regular access to computers.
In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that students in rural parts of the country need better internet coverage to pursue online education, and cheaper data rates will help them to more reliably access their courses.
