Nepal to Ban Single-Use Plastics Around Everest
Nepal has made an official decision to ban single-use plastics in the Mount Everest area beginning in January 2020. The region currently attracts tens of thousands of tourists each year. Plastic drinking bottles make up a large percentage of the trash left behind by these visitors. The government is currently working on several initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of the tourism industry. In addition to banning single-use plastics, Nepalese authorities are considering a major increase in the cost of a permit to climb Everest.
