Canadians Could Be Denied US Entry for Legal Pot Use
As Canada prepares to legalize recreational cannabis this October, US border officials warn of potential border crossing problems and even lifetime bans. A senior border official for US Customs warned that using and investing in the cannabis industry is federally illegal in the US even though several US states have already legalized recreational and medicinal marijuana use. Because of this, Canadians who admit to using cannabis or working in the industry could be denied entry and even banned from travelling or investing in the US for life. Shares in the Canadian cannabis industry fell shortly after this news broke. When asked to comment, Canada’s prime minister defended the US right to police their borders as they see fit.
