Trump and Kim Meet Face-to-Face in Singapore
A historic face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the US and North Korea took place in Singapore this week. President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jung-un shook hands and exchanged greetings before holding meetings at the summit. The talks ended with the signing of a joint statement in which the leaders vowed to remain engaged in peace talks. During the meetings, Trump promised to end war games on the Korean peninsula. For years, the US and South Korea have carried out joint exercises to show their strength against North Korea. In exchange, Kim said North Korea would begin the denuclearization process but did not make any specific promises in writing. This was the first diplomatic meeting in history between a sitting US president and a North Korean head of state.
