How The Leaves Came down
樹葉是怎樣飄落的
I’ll tell you how the leaves came down.
“我會告訴你，樹葉怎樣飄落。”
The great Tree to his children said,
大樹對孩子們輕輕說，
"You’re getting sleepy, Yellow and Brown,
“小黃，小灰，困了吧？
Yes, very sleepy, little Red;
是啊，困死了，小紅，
It is quite time you went to bed."
也是時候了，該睡覺了吧！”
Ah, begged each silly, pouting leaf,
“啊，”笨葉子們都撅著嘴說，
"Let us a little longer stay!
“讓我們再待一下可好？
Dear Father Tree, behold our grief;
大樹爸爸，看我們有多難過！
Tis such a very pleasant day,
今天這么舒服這么好，
We do not want to go away."
我們一點兒也不想走掉”
So just for one more merry day
于是又過了快樂的一天，
To the great Tree the leaflets clung,
小葉子們掛在大樹上，
Frolicked and danced and had their way,
鬧著，跳著，瘋瘋癲癲，
Upon the autumn breezes swung;
在秋天的微風中搖擺，
Whispering all their sports among,
在一切的運動中輕聲說道——
"Perhaps the great Tree will forget,
“大樹爸爸或許會忘記，”
And let us stay here till the spring,
會讓我們待到明年春天。
If we but beg and tease and fret."
只要求他，逗他，狠狠淘氣！”
But the great Tree did no such thing;
可是大樹并沒有這么做，
He smiled to hear their whispering.
只聽著悄悄話，讓笑紋浮現嘴邊
Come, children all, to bed! he cried;
大樹喊道：“來吧，孩子們，都睡吧！”
And ere they could renew their prayer,
他們來不及再說一句懇求的話，
He shook his head, and far and wide,
大樹就搖起頭來，只見四面八方，
Fluttering and rustling everywhere,
到處紛紛揚揚，沙沙作響，
Down sped the leaflets through the air.
小葉子在空中飛速下降
I saw them on the ground they lay,
我看見他們躺在地上，
Golden and red, a huddled swarm,
金黃與深紅，一大群相依相偎，
Waiting till one from far away,
等待著冬姑娘來自遠方，
White bedclothes heaped upon her arm,
帶著白色的睡衣，成千上百，
Should come to wrap them safe from harm.
要把小葉子蓋好，不受一點傷害。
The great bare Tree looked down and smiled.
光禿禿的大樹往腳下看看，
Good-night, dear little leaves, he said.
微笑著說：“親愛的小葉子，晚安！”
Good-night， replied each sleepy child;
晚安，”困倦的孩子都回答，
It is so nice to go to bed,
“安睡的感覺，多么美妙！”
Said drowsy little Brown and Red.
小灰和小紅也喃喃地說道
