講解
Today's key word is Zoo z-o-o
Zoo 動物園
A zoo is a park where live animals are kept so that people can look at them.
Here is an example from a comedy film Madagascar:
At New York's Central Park Zoo, a lion, a zebra, a giraffe, and a hippo are best friends and the stars of the show. One day they escape from the zoo and go to Africa.
This is a really funny movie. There is a zoo in Tokyo called Ueno Zoo. It is the oldest and probably the cutest zoo in Japan.
Every February, the staff at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo get attacked by rhinos(犀牛), zebras, and gorillas大猩猩. But, do not panic! They are not real animals.
It's part of the zoo's annual Escaped Animal Drill(年度逃跑動物演習). Some zookeepers dress up in animal costumes 服裝 and pretend they are trying to escape from the zoo.
And 150 of their colleagues, together with police and emergency workers, practice how they would handle the situation if an animal really were to break loose.
Some zoo workers really get into the performance, playing dead or feigning injury to heighten the drama. And what’s interesting is that every year the zebra and gorilla look different. Their costumes are upgrading with the development of technology.
Do you want to join us to watch this cute and funny drill next year?
