Ivory Seizure Worth Millions
繳獲價值數百萬象牙
Officials in Hong Kong confiscated two large shipping containers of illegal ivory worth approximately 3.5 million dollars. The ivory tusks and ornaments were smuggled in bags of scrap plastic and beans, and shipped from Kenya and Tanzania. This ivory seizure, is one of the largest in Hong Kong history. International trade of ivory has been banned since 1990, however, elephant poaching is still on the rise in Africa due to an increasing demand for illegal ivory in the Asian market. Seven people have been arrested.
香港海關繳獲兩集裝箱象牙，價值約350萬美金。海關人員在廢塑料和大豆袋中發現象牙和象牙制品，這些集裝箱來自肯尼亞和坦桑尼亞。而這也是有史以來香港破獲最大宗走私象牙案。自1990年起，全球已禁止象牙貿易，因亞洲市場供不應求，屠殺象牙依舊在非洲屢見不鮮。此案有7人被捕。
