英國的天氣
Everybody talks about the weather in England and this is not surprising.
在英國人人都談論天氣這并不奇怪。
It changes from minute to minute, so it's always interesting.
它每分鐘都在發生變化所以總是令人感興趣。
Someone once wisely remarked that other countries have a climate,
有人曾高明的評論說,其他國家有氣候，
but England just has weather!
而英國只有天氣!
Gretel was amused by all this talk at first,
格萊泰爾起初聽到這種說法時被逗樂了，
but she has now got now used to it.
但現在她已習以為常了。
Last week Gretel really understood
直到上星期,格萊泰爾才真正知道了
why everyone is so concerned about the weather:
為什么每個人都這么關心天氣:
you can never be certain what's going to happen.
你根本不知道以后天氣會發生什么變化。
Though it was spring there was a very heavy snowfall.
盡管已是春天,但還是下了一場很大的雪。
As usual,no one expected it.
像通常那樣,沒人希望如此。
The pipes in many houses were frozen;
很多房子外面的管子都凍住了;
trains failed to run cars got stuck;
火車不能開,汽車被堵塞住;
there were many accidents on the roads;
馬路上有許多交通事故
lots of people slipped on icy pavements and got hurt,
許多人在結冰的路面上滑倒摔傷。
the weather forecast was very bad.
天氣預報實在是太差了。
Everyone complained gloomily,
人們都會沮喪地發出，
"What awful weather we're having!Haven't seen anything like it!"and so on.
諸如"天氣太差勁了，從沒見過這樣的天氣"之類的抱怨。
And then,suddenly, the sun came out, the snow melted and it was spring again.
隨后呢,太陽又突然冒出來了，雪化了，還是春天。
"Typical!Just typical!"Gretel remarked.
“典型的天氣,太典型了!”格萊泰爾評論道。
"The way you talk about the weather, Gretel,"Mr.Clark said,
“格萊泰爾,以你談論天氣的口氣,”克拉克先生說，
"anyone would think you were English."
“無論誰都會認為你是一個英國人。”
