This rambling propensity strengthened with my years.
寒來暑往，年歲漸增，游興愈濃。
Books of voyages and travels became my passion,and in devouring their contents,
我對(duì)游記類的書籍愛不釋手，如饑似渴、狼吞虎咽地閱讀這些書，
I neglected the regular exercises of the school.
使我荒廢了學(xué)校的正常功課。
How wistfully would I wander about the pierheads in fine weather, and watch the parting ships,bound to distant climes-with what longing eyes would I gaze after their lessening sails,and waft myself in imagination to the ends of the earth!
在風(fēng)和日麗的日子，我常若有所思地游蕩在碼頭外邊，望著輪船漸漸離港，駛往遙遠(yuǎn)的地方；我渴望的雙眼注視著漸行漸遠(yuǎn)的點(diǎn)點(diǎn)風(fēng)帆，任思緒將我?guī)蛱煅暮＝恰?/div>
Further reading and thinking,
隨著涉獵的書籍增多和思想的越發(fā)成熟，
though they brought this vague inclination into more reasonable bounds,only served to make it more decided.
這一懵懵懂懂的嗜好變得較為理智一些，但是也更為根深蒂固。
I visited various parts of my own country;
我踏遍了本國的山山水水；
and had I been merely a lover of fine scenery,I should have felt little desire to seek elsewhere its gratification,for on no country have the charms of nature been more prodigally lavished.
倘若僅僅是喜愛美景佳色而已，我就不會(huì)有去異國他鄉(xiāng)一飽眼福的欲望，因?yàn)闆]有哪個(gè)國度能像我的祖國那樣得到大自然的垂青厚愛，處處皆是鬼斧神工的迷人風(fēng)光。
Her mighty lakes, like oceans of liquid silver;
浩淼的湖泊，如同銀色的海洋，浩浩蕩蕩；
her mountains, with their bright aerial tints;
逶迤的群山，高聳云霄、郁郁蔥蔥、光彩奪目；
her valleys, teeming with wild fertility;
幽幽的溪谷，草木叢生，飛禽走獸匿跡其間；
her tremendous cataracts, thundering in their solitudes;
寬闊的瀑布，飛流直下，發(fā)出孤寂的雷鳴；
her boundless plains, waving with spontaneous verdure;
蒼茫的原野，草青木翠、隨風(fēng)搖曳；
her broad deep rivers, rolling in solemn silence to the ocean;
長江大川，水闊流深，肅穆無聲，奔流入海；
her trackless forests,where vegetation puts forth all its magnificence;
人跡罕至的森林，各色植物爭奇斗艷，蔚為大觀；
her skies, kindling with the magic of summer clouds and glorious sunshine-no, never need an American look beyond his own countryfor the sublime and beautiful of natural scenery.
夏日的長空，艷陽高照、云蒸霞蔚，變幻莫測(cè)—不，一個(gè)美國人根本無須遠(yuǎn)游故土之外去發(fā)現(xiàn)壯麗的自然風(fēng)景。
