奧巴馬就職演說
Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real.
今天我要向你們說的是，我們面臨的挑戰是真實存在的。
They are serious and they are many.
這些挑戰很多，也很嚴重，
They will not be met easily or in a short span of time.
它們不會輕易地或者在短時間內就得以克服。
But know this, America-they will be met.
但記住這一點：美國終將渡過難關。
We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture,the time has come to set aside childish things.
我們仍是一個年輕的國家，但借用《圣經》的話說，摒棄幼稚的時代已經來臨。
The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit;
是時候重樹我們堅韌的精神；
to choose our better history;
選擇我們更好的歷史；
to carry forward that precious gift,that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation:
弘揚那些珍貴的天賦和高尚的理念，并代代傳承下去，
the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free,and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
即上帝賦予的信念：天下眾生皆平等，眾生皆自由，且均應有追求最大幸福的機會。
In reaffirming the greatness of our nation,we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned.
在重申我們國家偉大之處的同時，我們深知偉大從來不是上天賜予的，而是要靠我們努力爭取。
Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less.
我們從不抄捷徑，也不會退而求其次。
It has not been the path for the fainthearted-for those who prefer leisure over work,or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame.
我們的歷程不屬于那些膽怯懦弱、享受安逸或追逐名利之人。
Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers,the makers of things-some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.
這條歷程屬于勇于承擔風險者，屬于實干家和創造者，他們中的一些人名留青史，但更多的人卻在默默無聞地工作著。正是這些人帶領我們走過了漫長崎嶇的旅途，帶領我們走向富強和自由。
We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth;
美國是由來自地球上各個角落的語言和文化融匯而成的國家。
and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation,and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united,we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass;
我們品嘗過內戰和種族隔離的苦酒，經歷過黑暗的歷史篇章，因此，我們變得更加強大，更加團結，我們堅信昔日仇恨總有一天會成為過去；
that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve;
部族之間的隔閡不久將會消除；
that as the world grows smaller,our common humanity shall reveal itself;
我們堅信，隨著世界變得越來越小，我們共有的人道精神將會放出光芒，
and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.
美國必將會在開創和平新紀元的過程中發揮應有的作用。
America. In the face of our common dangers,in this winter of our hardship,let us remember these timeless words.
這就是美國。面對我們共同的危機，在這艱難的寒冬，讓我們牢記那些不朽的字句。
With hope and virtue,let us brave once more the icy currents,and endure what storms may come.
懷著希望和勇氣，讓我們再一次沖破結冰的逆流，迎接任何可能來臨的狂風驟雨。
Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end,that we did not turn back nor did we falter;
讓我們的子孫傳唱，當我們面對考驗時，我們拒絕結束我們的旅程，我們沒有回頭，沒有踟躕不前。
and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us,we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
我們在上帝的關愛下眺望遠方，我們帶著自由這個偉大的禮物，將它安全地傳遞給未來的世世代代。
