With Italia Serie A, Juventus met AS Roma on Sunday, looking to hold onto the top spot with only six games left in the campaign. The unbeaten leaders came into the night with a one point lead over AC Milan and would have the chance to go four points clear depending on how Milan fared in their match with Bologna.
The stadium was packed with Juve supporters who were eager to see their team extend the lead. The team decides to have Alessandro Del Piero sit on bench for this one.
The home side pressed hard and would have a good start. Only four minutes into the match, Arturo Vidal would turn in the low cross. It was 1-0. Juve in control early on.
The hosts kept pressing and their efforts paid off only four minutes later. Vidal doubled the lead after an angled shot after Mirko Vucinic laid the ball into his path.
The Chilean midfielder gave Juve a 2-goal lead early on. Francesco Totti looked helpless watching on the stands.
The visitors did not get any help. After half an hour, goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg got his marching orders for a foul on Claudio Marchisio.
Andrea Pirlo's penalty was saved but the Juventus followed up to score from the rebound. Juve led 3-0 at break.
They kept pressing after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Marchisio extended the lead by scoring in front of the box. Juventus eased off the rest of the way to beat Roma 4-0.
