There are situations where a group of people are gathered together because they are all associated in some formal way－for example, they share a strong interest in some hobby or sport. Now, into this group may come an "outsider"－someone that the others possibly know, but who is not a regular member of their in-crowd. This "outsider" is welcomed and accepted, and perhaps is even considering joining their group officially.
一群人正聚在一起，因為他們都有些相似之處——例如，他們有相同的愛好或對某一運動有相同的興趣。現在，這群人中來了一個“局外人”。這群人平常也認識這個局外人，但他不是這群人的常有成員。這個“局外人”的受到了歡迎并被大家所接受，甚至他也許在考慮正式加入這群人中。
For now, however, that "outsider" does not "belong." In this situation, if anyone asks that outsider, "Why are you here?", that outsider could answer. "I just came along for the ride." The meaning is, "I am an extra person who does not really belong, but because I am accepted, I am happy to be here for now."
然而，現在這個“局外人”還不屬于這群人。”在這種情況下，如果有人問這個局外人：“你為什么來這里？”局外人可以這樣回答： “我只是來看看。”意思就是：“我是外人，不屬于這兒，但因為我被大家接受了，現在我在這兒呆著也挺高興的。”
