The English Premier League featured a matchup between Manchester United and Chelsea. A win for Man U would put the squad level on points with league leader and city rival Manchester City. But the Red Devils faced a club which they had not beaten over the past ten years at Stamford Bridge, Sunday.
Chelsea went in front 36 minutes into the match. Man U's Jonny Evans knocked-in an own goal off an unlucky bounce. Things would get worse for the visitors just 23 seconds into the second half.
Juan Mata hit a scorching left-footed volley and Chelsea took a 2-nil lead. David Luiz followed that with a header and it was 3-0 Chelsea, 6 minutes after the break. But Chelsea collapsed after that.
Man U’s Wayne Rooney hit two penalties in the next 19 minutes to make the score 3-2. And Javier Hernandez finished-off Manchester United's comeback in the 84 minute. His header delivered a 3-3 final score.
The result means Manchester City stays on top of the table with 57 points, two better than Manchester United with both teams having played 24 games.
Chelsea played without injured skipper John Terry and midfielder Frank Lampard and the suspended Ashley Cole, but stay in fourth place with 43 points, six behind Tottenham Hotspur which plays at Liverpool on Monday.
Newcastle United moves above Arsenal into fifth place, after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
