Low Carbon Living: Better Environment, Better You
Who knew your everyday diet could affect carbon emissions? But, raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined!
Being a vegetarian can reduce emissions of 1.5 tons of CO2 per year, but, if you love meat and don’t want to go that far, you don’t have to! Skip one meal of meat a week! If every American did this, it would be the same as taking more than 5 million cars off our roads!
We now drink bottled water; marketed to us in all sorts of fancy bottles, complete with Jennifer Anistons and crystals. Try having some straight out of the tap, or, boil it!
Bottled water plastic not only creates waste but manufacturing the plastic generates large amounts of CO2 emissions.
Every girl loves to shop for something, and that will probably never change, nor do we expect it to. Some things you can’t fight. But buying clothes that you might never get to wear doesn’t have to be that bad for the environment. Shop 100% pure cotton! Producing cotton doesn’t produce toxins like other materials.
Did you know that when you fly you can choose an airline that will reduce your carbon footprint? All you have to do is purchase a ticket from any participating airlines and they will plant enough trees around the world to balance out your carbon footprint!
Nothing is more comfortable than sitting in the warmth of a heated car while its snowing and hailing outside in the freezing cold…but with global warming and even global cooling becoming more pressing by the day, not to mention your own health, take a walk, ride a bike, reduce your carbon footprint on the environment.
The smallest actions around the house often have more impact than you realize, and should never be underestimated in their value. Do you unplug electronics after you use them?
Do you switch off everything before you go to sleep? Do you use energy efficient lightbulbs? Do you turn your air conditioning up just 1 degree higher to save energy? Do you adjust your TV screen a bit dimmer to save energy? Do you re-use water for different activities around the house? Each of these seemingly insignificant adjustments in your daily life can make a difference in saving the environment of tomorrow!
Save paper. Save the world. Producing paper has a double effect, so use it double sided! Producing paper not only kills forests of trees, which absorbs CO2, it also requires energy. Saving 1 ton of paper will save 1 ton of energy used to produce paper. This is 2.5 tons of CO2!
