本課中的對話有的是在九歲的女孩兒Amanda Clark 和她父親Michael Clark 之間進行的,有的是在Amanda和她老師之間進行的.談話的內容都是和計算機有關.Amanda 和她的父母要坐汽車外出旅行,正在計算路程和費用.以下是兩段對話的一部分.
MICHAEL CLARK:
Um ...eight and four's twelve.Now,twelve and fify-eight's seventy.That's seventy kilometres.Now,seventy and sixty-three...That's ... um...
AMANDA:
Seventy and sixty-three is a hundred and thirty-three.
MICHAEL CLARK:
O.K.,Amanda,You add the rest.
AMANDA:
How long will it take,Dad?
MICHAEL CLARK:
Well...three hundred and sixty kilometres...at an average speed of fifty kilometres per hour.So that's three hundred and sixty divided by fifty.Let's see...
AMANDA:
Let me do it on the calculator,Dad.Three hundred and sixty divided by fifty equals seven poind two.So the journey'll take about seven hours.

PART 3 - The lesson

CALCULATING IN ENGLISH 用英語計算

1.ADDITION 加法
用英語說8+4=12有三種說法:
a)Eight and four is twelve.
Eight and four's twelve.(也有人說:Eight and four are twelve)
b)Eight and four makes twelve.
c)Eight plus four equals twelve.(這種說法比較正式,例如在算術課上.)
2.SUBTRACTION 減法
30 - 7 = 23 有兩種普通的說法:
a) Seven from thirty is twenty-three.
b) Thirty minus seven equals twenty-three.(比較正式)
3.MULTIPLICATION 乘法
5 × 6 = 30 也有幾種說法:
a) Five sixes are thirty.
b) Five times six is/equals thirty.
c) Five multiplied by six equals thirty.(比較正式)
4.DIVISION 除法
20 ÷ 4 = 5 可以這樣說:
a) Four into twenty goes five(times).
c) Twenty divided by four is/equals five.(比較正式)
如果是小數的話:
Three hundred and sixty divided by fifty equals seven point two.

澳大利亞的假日
在澳大利亞,人們一年通常有一個月左右的假期.假期里他們可以回老家看看,走親訪友,也可以到海濱風景優美的地方玩玩,到鄉下走走.
