Part 1 At the Customs and Immigration
Dialogue Script 1
Officer: Good afternoon, sir. May I see your passport, please?
Peter: Of course. Here you are.
Officer: What is the purpose of your visit? Business or pleasure?
Peter: Pleasure.
Officer: I see. How long will you be staying in the U.S.?
Peter: Two weeks. I'll be leaving on June 10th.
Officer: Where do you intend to visit while in the country?
Peter: LA first; then I'll be heading on to New York city.
Officer: Do you have a return ticket to the P.R.C.?
Peter: Yes; however, I'll be returning via Japan——not going back to the P.R.C. directly.
講解:
(May I see your passport, please?)。
2.What is the purpose of your visit? Business or pleasure?
3.Where do you intend to visit while in the country?
After visiting Aunt Sarah in Paris, I'm heading on to London. Where are you heading for? I'm heading for San Fransisco.
5.a return ticket返程機票,一般如果出國時間比較短的話,可以買two-way ticket,或者 round-way ticket,也就是往返機票。
6. I'll be returning via Japan
(on to Customs) (走向海關)
Inspector: Do you have anything to declare?
Tom: No, I don't think so.
Inspector: Well, would you mind opening this bag?
Tom: I guess not, although I might not be able to close it again.
Inspector: Aha, what are these magazines?
Tom: Oh, dear, I didn't realize I still had those.
Inspector: Well, sir, since we are very strict about pornography(色情刊物), I will have to confiscate(沒收) them. Tom: Certainly.
Inspector: And what's this? Three bottles of whiskey.
Tom: That's the legal limit.
Inspector: Yes, but what about these two six packs of wine spritzers(白葡萄酒蘇打水)?
Tom: Oh, those-well, it's just a fun drink-it's not really alcohol.
Inspector: Says here 4%. I'm afraid you'll have to choose.
Tom: OK, take the spritzers.
Inspector: And what's this?
Tom: An aloe(蘆薈) plant-good for the health.
Inspector: It's illegal to bring it into the country, sorry. Well, I guess that about takes care of everything.
Tom: You are not kidding! You've taken most of my souvenirs(紀念品) from the States.
Inspector: Well, think of it this way, now you'll be able to shut your bag, no problem.
講解:
Do you have anything to declare? 或者Anything to declare? Could you tell me what things have duty on them?
Any arms, munitions, living plants, or animals?
Do you have to pay duty on the liquor and cigarettes?
All this luggage is mine.
I have a suitcase and a traveling bag.

Take a look, please.

I have a few things to declare.
I don't think I have anything to declare.
These items are for personal use.
How long will it take us to get through the customs.
Where should I go through the custom?
I only have shirts and things like that.
The custom formalities are simple.
How much duty should I pay?
