LESSON 39 The Inchcape Rock
第三十九課 印奇角巖石
No stir in the air, no stir in the sea,
天空和海水都一片平靜，
The ship was still as she could be:
船靜靜停在水面上:
Her sails from heaven received no motion,
她從天堂駛來時就是一動不動的，
Her keel was steady in the ocean.
她在海中停得很穩。
Without either sign or sound of their shock,
沒有任何聲音和預兆，
The waves flowed over the Inchcape Rock;
海浪拍打在印奇角巖石上；
So little they rose, so little they fell,
激起和落下的海浪都不高，
They did not move the Inchcape Bell.
無法撼動這塊巖石上的鐘。
The worthy Abbot of Aberbrothock
著名的艾布洛撒克方丈
Had placed that bell on the Inchcape Rock;
將那個大鐘放在印奇角巖石上；
On a buoy in the storm it floated and swung,
在暴風雨中它來回搖擺，
And over the waves its warning rung.
在潮水中鳴響。
When the rock was hid by the surge's swell,
一旦潮水漫過大鐘，
The mariners heard the warning bell;
水手們就會聽到警示的鐘聲響起；
And then they knew the perilous rock,
然后他們知道在那個地方有危險的暗礁，
And blessed the Abbot of Aberbrothock.
他們因此對艾布洛撒克方丈贊不絕口。
The buoy of the Inchcape Bell was seen,
在蔚藍色的海洋上，
A darker speck on the ocean green;
他們看見印奇角大鐘的浮標；
Sir Ralph the Rover walked his deck,
拉爾夫爵士走上甲板，
And he fixed his eye on the darker speck.
目不轉睛盯著浮標。
His eye was on the Inchcape float:
他盯著那個印奇角浮標：
Quoth he, "My men, put out the boat,
說道：“伙計們，停船，
And row me to the Inchcape Rock,

And I'll plague the Abbot of Aberbrothock."
