He springs from his hammock,—he flies to the deck;
少年從吊床躍起，飛身甲板，
Amazement confronts him with images dire;
眼前，驚愕不已的景象，
Wild winds and mad waves drive the vessel a wreck;
狂風(fēng)巨浪，將船體撕裂，
The masts fly in splinters; the shrouds are on fire.
桅桿斷成碎片，遍地火光。
Like mountains the billows tremendously swell;
涌浪拍天，排山倒海撲來(lái)，
In vain the lost wretch calls on Mercy to save;
落水的手，徒喚蒼天在上，
Unseen hands of spirits are ringing his knell,
鬼神，敲響瘆人的喪鐘，
And the death angel flaps his broad wings o’er the wave!
死亡天使，振翼掠過(guò)海浪。
O sailor boy, woe to thy dream of delight!
哦，水手少年，夢(mèng)魘伴隨災(zāi)難，
In darkness dissolves the gay frostwork of bliss!
黑暗融化，神佑的浪漫秋霜，
Where now is the picture that Fancy touched bright,—
父母鐘愛(ài)，還有戀人溫香，
Thy parents’fond pressure, and love’s honeyed kiss?
夢(mèng)幻小船，究竟哪里迷航？

Shall home, love, or kindred, thy wishes repay;

Or redeem form or fame from the merciless surge;

But the white foam of waves shall thy winding sheet be,
浪花奔涌，裹起青春殮衣，
And winds in the midnight of winter thy dirge.
寒冬夜半，鋪開(kāi)生命悲愴。
On a bed of green sea flowers thy limbs shall be laid,—
你安臥海底，綠色花朵簇?fù)恚?/div>
Around thy white bones the red coral shall grow;
白骨悄然，紅色珊瑚生長(zhǎng)，
Of thy fair yellow locks threads of amber be made,
你堇色頭發(fā)，綹成琥珀絲線，
And every part suit to thy mansion below.
時(shí)光凝固，鋪滿平靜安詳。
Days, months, years, and ages shall circle away,
年復(fù)一年，歲月穿梭流轉(zhuǎn)，
And still the vast waters above thee shall roll;
你的身上，海浪訇然如常，
Earth loses thy pattern forever and aye;
你的身影，永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)再現(xiàn)，
O sailor boy! sailor boy! peace to thy soul!
