LESSON 62 A good example
第六十二課 一個(gè)好榜樣
A poor boy once went to a ragged school, where his face was well washed.
一個(gè)貧窮的男孩在貧民兒童免費(fèi)學(xué)校上學(xué)，在學(xué)校的時(shí)候把臉洗得很干凈。
When he returned home, the neighbours looked at him with astonishment.
放學(xué)回到家后，鄰居們難以置信地看著他說(shuō)，
They said, "That looks like Tom Rogers, and yet it can' be, for he is so clean."
“你看起來(lái)像湯姆羅杰斯，但是跟他還差一點(diǎn)，因?yàn)樗饶愀蓛簟！?/p>
Presently his mother looked at him, and seeing that his face was so clean,
過(guò)了一會(huì)兒，他母親看到他那么干凈的臉時(shí)，
she fancied that her own face was dirty, and forthwith she washed it.
意識(shí)到她自己的臉卻臟兮兮的，便立刻轉(zhuǎn)身洗臉去了。
The father soon came home from his work, and, seeing his wife and his son so clean,
過(guò)了不久父親下班回家，當(dāng)看到他的妻子和他的兒子梳洗地這么干凈，
he thought that his face was dirty, and so he followed their example.
也同樣意識(shí)到自己該以他們?yōu)榘駱印?/p>
Father, mother, and son being clean, the mother began to think that the room looked dirty;
父親，母親，兒子都變得干干凈凈了，母親開始覺(jué)得屋子也該收拾一下了；
so she went down on her knees and scrubbed the floor clean.
因此她跪下來(lái)開始擦洗地板。
A woman lived next door. Seeing so great a change in her neighbours,
住在隔壁女人看到自己的鄰居家里發(fā)生了這么大變化，
she thought that her face and her room were very dirty; so she, too, speedily set about cleaning them.
她也開始覺(jué)得自己的臉，自己的房間相比之下是如此不堪；所以她也開始飛速的收拾并清洗起來(lái)。
This story shows how two houses and their occupants were made tidy and comfortable,
這個(gè)故事告訴我們相鄰的兩家住戶是如何互相影響著來(lái)保持整潔舒適的家庭環(huán)境的，
simply by the example of the clean face of one ragged school boy.
起因只是一位在貧民學(xué)校上學(xué)的小男孩。
Children, as well as grown-up people, should always set a good example.
不單單是兒童，成年人也應(yīng)該樹立一個(gè)好榜樣。
We never know how much good may be done in that way; nor can we tell how much harm results from a bad example.
我們永遠(yuǎn)意想不到自己文明的舉動(dòng)會(huì)給他人造成多大的影響，同樣我們也不知道樹立壞的榜樣所帶來(lái)的危害。
