LESSON 50 SUMMER
第五十課 夏天
Now it is summer. The days are long, and the sun is up in the sky hours before you are awake.
現(xiàn)在是夏天了。白天變長(zhǎng)了。太陽(yáng)在你蘇醒的幾小時(shí)前就已經(jīng)升起來(lái)了。
The trees are full of leaves, and the garden is gay with flowers.
樹上長(zhǎng)滿了樹葉，花園里因?yàn)橛谢@得生機(jī)盎然。
The hay-makers are busy in the fields. Do you know what hay is?
干草機(jī)在田間忙碌著。你知道什么是干草嗎？
It is long grass cut down and dried. The men who cut it down are called the mowers.
那是一些斷掉了的干了的雜草。剪斷草的機(jī)器叫做割草機(jī)。
They cut it with long sharp scythes, or with reaping machines.
它們用尖銳的鐮刀或收割工具剪斷雜草。
And women and girls toss it about in the field, that the wind and the sun may dry it.
女人和女孩們把草扔開來(lái)，這樣風(fēng)和太陽(yáng)可以吹干和曬干這些雜草。
How sweetly smells the new-mown hay!
新除掉的雜草聞著多么的清甜啊！
When the hay is dry, it is made into a hay-stack.
當(dāng)草變干后可以制成草垛，
It is now ready to be used to feed horses and cows in winter, when there is no grass in the fields for them to eat.
當(dāng)冬天田里沒(méi)有草吃的時(shí)候它們可以用來(lái)喂給馬和牛吃。
'Tis summer, I know,by the blue of the sky;
我知道的夏天有藍(lán)藍(lán)的天空，
By the trees' deeper green,
深綠的大樹，
As beneath them I lie.
我躺下來(lái)深深的呼吸到它們。
Now ring the sharp scythes,of the mowers all day,
除草機(jī)的尖銳的鐮刀響起了鈴聲，
And they spread to the air,the sweet-scented hay.
他們向空氣中散布著散發(fā)著甜甜的香味的干草。
O summer, sweet summer,
夏天啊，甜美的夏天，
Glide slowly away!
慢些走吧！
For I love in your warmth,and sunshine to play.
我喜歡在你的溫暖和陽(yáng)光里玩耍。
