up to date，update，to date

這三個(gè)詞看來(lái)相似，也有關(guān)連，但涵義及用法截然不同。

Up to date（或 up-to-date）是形容詞，可作定語(yǔ)或表語(yǔ)，解作“新式的”、“現(xiàn)代的”、“到目前為止最新的（latest）”。例：

On the outskirts of the city，we saw many up-to-date bungalows．

在市郊，我們看到很多新型的平房。

Bring the ledger up to date．

把最新近的賬目記在賬本上。

The exhibition featured many most up-to-date inventions．

展覽會(huì)的特色是眾多的最新發(fā)明品。

Up to date也可用作解“獲最新資訊”，如：

I'll keep you up to date with any news．

我有最新消息就讓你知道。

I am very up to date in terms of economic trends．

我對(duì)經(jīng)濟(jì)趨勢(shì)的認(rèn)識(shí)絕不落伍。

Update一般作動(dòng)詞用，也可用作名詞，意為“更新”、“使跟上最新近的發(fā)展”，相當(dāng)于to bring…up to date，如：

His job is to update the ledgers．

他的工作是更新賬簿上的賬目。

The radio broadcasts news updates every hour．

電臺(tái)每小時(shí)播出最新新聞。

To date是狀語(yǔ)，意為“直至目前為止”（up to the present moment）。用法如下：

Only two have handed in their application forms to date．

到目前為止，只有兩個(gè)人交來(lái)了申請(qǐng)表格。

To date，the government has spent billions of dollars on the project．

至現(xiàn)時(shí)，政府已為該項(xiàng)工程花費(fèi)了數(shù)十億元。

值得留意的是：因?yàn)閠o date是指從以往到現(xiàn)今的一段時(shí)間，主句的動(dòng)詞要用完成時(shí)態(tài)。
