【詞語用法】
around和round相似，均作副詞和介詞用。美國人習慣用around，如下列各例句：
He turned around.Like the moon, the artificial satellites move around the earth.
I went around to the post-office.
Around 800 men came.
英國人習慣用round，如上面的前三個例句，他們習慣把around改成round，而最后一句，則改成about。
around有一些固定的搭配，如around and about，around and above，all around等。而有時不可用around，如winter comes around，all the year around，win one around等；
round與around的比較：
round常指在圈內或者曲線上的移動或定位。
She walked round the car and looked at the wheels.
英國人還常用round作“去到一個地方的每個部分”或“分東西給組里的每個人”。
We walked round the old part of the town.
Could you pass the cups round, please?
而around則指不明確的，模糊的移動或定位。
The children were running around/about everywhere.
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：I prefer being around people.
糾正：I prefer having people around me.
翻譯：我更偏向有人圍繞在我的身邊。
分析：這里顛倒了不可倒置的習語。
【例句用法】
1.I'll send someone to show you around.
我派人帶你到周圍轉轉。
2.It'll be finished around Christmas.
這事將在圣誕節前後完成。
3.He turned around as he heard a noise behind him.
他聽到身后有響聲，便轉過身來。
4.I will visit you around Christmas.
我將在圣誕節前后去拜訪你。
5.He looked around but could see nobody.
他四處望了一下，看不到什么人。

【詞義辨析】
appear, look, seem,
appear: 指從感觀印象看似乎是如此，但有時著重指因視野、觀點限制而產生的歪曲印象。
look: 指從樣子看起來，側重通過視覺而建立的印象。
seem: 多指從主觀印象或個反應得出的看法。
appearance, look, face, aspect,
appearance: 普通用詞，著重由總體產生的印象。
look: 普通用詞，多用復數，可與appearance換用，但較口語化。
face: 側重指容貌。
aspect: 書面用詞，突出人或事物在某特定時間或地點時的外貌。
look, see, watch, observe, witness,
look: 側重“看”的動作。
see: 指看見。
watch: 指用眼睛跟隨某物，以便對每一個變化、運動等進行觀察。
observe: 側重以客觀的態度進行觀察。
witness: 指當場看見，親眼看見。
【例句用法】
1.Can't you look where you're going? You nearly knocked me over!
看，你這是往哪里走？差點兒把我撞倒了
2.Just look at this beautiful present.
快來看看這件漂亮的禮物吧。
3.It looks bad not going to your own brother's wedding.
連親兄弟的婚禮都不參加，這太說不過去了。
4.The window looks upon the street.
這扇窗戶面向大街。
5.He looked at the baby with a smile.
他笑著看著這個嬰兒。
6.They looked forward very much to seeing him again.
他們非常盼望再次見到他。
7.He looks nervous.
